Reading: The Clockwork Dynasty

Totally judging

I have to say, the artwork and the title grabbed my attention. Totally judging a book by its cover.

The cover art grabbed my attention for two reasons, the colors and the gears. Firstly, rich colors just get me. Maroon-ish with touches of gold. Luxury and history are usually what associate with those kinds of colors. And the gears. Gears usually mean steam punk to me and I’m not a real big fan of steam punk. Usually. But, I’m not a book snob though so if the premise sounds like something I can endure, I’ll give it a shot.

The title grabbed my attention for something so unrelated. I’m a huge fan of Cassandra Clare’s Inferno Devices trilogy (I mean, come on, Will and Tessa and Jem . . . yeah, I don’t think I will ever let them go) and for those who aren’t familiar with it the titles are Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, and Clockwork Princess. So a title like Clockwork Dynasty definitely makes me pause.

So, I snagged it off the library’s “New Books” shelf and giving it a shot. Oh, and this line from the book description,

There are strange things in the world, June. Things older than we know. Walking with the faces of men . . . “

because that just sounds like a good story. Is it about monsters? Magic? How does that fit in with “clockwork?”

Color me curious. Let’s see what adventure lies ahead.
