Time Flies: Cue the Christmas tunes . . .

News Flash: Cue the Christmas tunes
. . . because I can now fully appreciate them since Thanksgiving had its day

I don’t hate Christmas. I promise, I really, really love the holiday season, but it seems like Christmas has crept its way up the calendar, stopped only by Halloween. And I think that’s slowly slipping as well. This year a local Christmas store was hanging Christmas streamers the night before Halloween. I couldn’t believe it. I honestly thought they were Dia de Los Muertos decorations (which is highly unlikely for us in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on a rural island) because I couldn’t fathom Christmas decor before Halloween. That cashier will probably laugh at me, between saying “I told you so,” if she ever found out I realized they indeed were Christmas decorations. She did try to warn me.

I just feel that Thanksgiving gets overlooked so to protest against Christmas overreaching I have a personal rule to not play holiday tunes until the day after Thanksgiving. I’m sure that will get an eye roll from some who think I’m being so dramatic. To each his own. It makes me feel better to honor Thanksgiving this way, but that’s just me.

And now that we’re in official Christmas mode, I’m blasting my Holiday Playlist and find it sorely lacking! I realize I’m missing all of my Beach Boy holiday favorites. At the very least I should add “Little Saint Nick” to my list this year. I am happy to report that I do have Smash Mouth’s “The Christmas Song,” Jackson 5’s “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause,” and, of course, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.” I have mixed feelings about Mariah Carey on this list because it seems that song gets overplayed during the holidays, but I can’t help it! It needs to be on here! I’m glad it is.

Cue the holiday shopping . . .

Of which I had no part of, thankyouverymuch. I skipped out on the Black Friday doorbusters. I had to work, of course. And I really don’t mind all the entertaining people-watching to be had on a day like that. Pass!

But the shopping season has officially begun so I wish all of you the best in finding a good deal for that perfect present for loved ones! Or if you’re like me and crafting presents this year, best of luck in finishing on time! (I know I’m going to need it, lol)
