Holiday 411: St. Patrick’s Day

Of all the minor holidays we celebrate throughout the year, St. Patrick’s Day has always been one of my favorites and I have no idea why. I’m not Irish or have any Irish ancestors (that I know of anyway). I’m not Catholic so it’s not because I want to honor Saint Patrick.

It always just drew me in. I remember every year making absolutely sure I wore green and being so disappointed in myself on the years I forgot. Weird, I know. I think a huge part of it was I didn’t want to get pinched all day, but another part of it was I thought it was pretty darned cool to have a holiday that demanded you wear green to celebrate. I’ve always thought the Shamrock was pretty cool and the fact that I always found Ireland fascinating may be a huge part of my fascination with this holiday.

This year, I stumbled upon an article by Christine Dalton of the Huffington Post that I’d love to share: “Everything You Knew About Saint Patricks Day Is Wrong” because I thought this was funny and good to know, even if you knew some of them.

On the flip side, History.com has some awesome 2-minute videos about the history of St. Patrick’s Day so got check it out here.

And even though the day is almost gone, I just wanted to send out my St. Patrick’s Day wishes to cyberspace. So …

aHope you had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!!
