The Hook: Missing art, Ireland, mystery
This is such a good series!
I know I’ve taken a while to review this book here on my blog, but see here for my reasons (not excuses) and cut me some slack, please.
Ms. Connolly continues to do great job in this second book as well. I love following Maura as she gets settled into her new life in Ireland and her adventures surrounding her new home. I’ve grown attached to these characters and love how they add to the story. I mean, there’s Sean Murphy who’s garda (policeman). Then you have the Sullivan’s crew consisting of Mick, Jimmy and Rose (Jimmy’s daughter), and Billy. There’s Maura’s neighbor and her grandma’s best friend, Bridget, who is also Mick’s grandmother. There’s the little town of Leap. The shops. The environment. I love it. Ms. Connolly also has a way of bringing Ireland to life. Not to mention, in this one Maura has a possible love interest and I love seeing how she handles it. I love seeing Maura respond to life. I get her.
The mystery in this one is also awesome to follow. She weaves in art and genealogy and that Irish history. Amazing. Just … all of my geekiness is having a ball with this series. It doesn’t bother me at all, but I feel I should mention it; some may find it boring through some parts because Ms. Connolly gives a lot of history. I mean, Irish history, art history, genealogy. That’s a lot of history, so just a heads up. It’s done with a little humor and she does spark it up a bit, but it may still read boring to some.
With all that said, I’m looking forward to the next book!
