Random 411: Not 6:30 but 6:33

2015/01/img_5191.pngThere. You see that? That 33?

I have no idea what it is, but for some reason I can’t set my alarm on a whole number … or is it called a round number? (Ack! You see why Math and me don’t get along? And yes I’m blaming it on Math, it’s easier) Anyway, I just can’t. And I’ve been doing this for quite some time, but only realized it a couple of days ago, when I was reviewing my alarm schedule for my job. I wanted to set it around 6:30. In fact, I did scroll to the :30 and ended up moving it to :33.

I know right?! And you know what? I’m not sure why. Is it because I want to be a little off? I don’t want to be “on the nose.” Is it because I want to be a rebel and say stuff like “No, I wake up at 6:33, not 6:30?” I mean, it’s so random and I have no idea why I just can’t set my alarm to, say, 6:15. I can’t even do that! I tried once and instead, I moved it to 6:17.

scoffs It’s your choice whether to set it on :17 and not :15. Nothing is compelling you to set it to :17.

I know! And that’s why it’s so weird! It’s like something in me is like “Don’t do it! That’s so boring!” Ah, maybe it’s because I don’t want to be boring. It is because I want to be a little off. I mean, who thinks about setting an alarm those few minutes over? I know I can’t be the only one. Any thoughts as to why you do it?

Yeah, I’m guessing because it’s so boring to set it to round numbers. I want to live a little. To be slightly off. To color outside the lines, so to speak (Not that there’s anything wrong with staying between the lines. It makes a pretty picture when everything is in order like that). I guess setting the alarm a few minutes off speaks to my personality? I don’t know. Regardless, it happens. It’s hardwired into my genetic make up. It is because I want to say stuff like “well, I get up at 6:33” (and that’s if I don’t tap snooze … which, by the way, I always tap snooze, x20 or so).

So, here’s to being a few minutes off. To being a little weird. To being … different! #WeirdIsOkay (well, I ended it at 400 words. Okay, 408 words. Okay, still off)
