Ah, growing old.
I thought this might be an appropriate subject to discuss since this month is home to my birthday. Another birthday, another year.
And I am grateful for it.
For some, they cringe at the thought of aging. And it could be for various reasons: body aches, fading eye sight, and other things that come with old age. This is not the case with me. I don’t mind it. Much.
The way I see it is there’s nothing you can do about it, really, so why stress over it. So you’re a bit older. Hopefully a bit wiser too. There are many people in the world who didn’t make it to their thirties. Why disrespect the opportunity I have been given?
I may sound a bit harsh, but, seriously I can only imagine how many babies were born in the same year as me who didn’t make it to their 1st birthday. Two of my classmates have already passed. I’m lucky to be where I’m at in this timeline.
So, do I enjoy growing old or do I fight it? I’d say I enjoy it, most days. I enjoy that I know what it’s like to live in a world without computers and to remember what it was like when my dad brought home the first one. I enjoy knowing what it’s like to use a telephone or remember when stamps were 15¢. It’s the simple pleasures that make living enjoyable and I choose to enjoy it rather than fight against it.
So, Happy Belated Birthday to me and to everyone else who celebrates a birthday this year 😉 . Here’s to another year and many more to come!
