NaBloPoMo 2014 – Day 2: International Relations 101

Whoop, whoop! *hands in the air* Two days in a row!

A certain determination kicks in when you’re trying to participate in a yearly event like NaBloPoMo. I don’t think I have it in me to write a novel, but it shouldn’t be too hard for me to post daily, for at least one month out of the year, you know? And who knows, hopefully I’ll post some really good stuff that could lead to other great stuff and so on and so forth.

Today, I’m thinking about the new semester. For me, it starts tomorrow, or well, right now since my classes are on Eastern Standard Time. It’s basically International Relations 101. I’m curious. So very curious. I guess any book geek would be, but I’m finding myself more and more excited about my classes as I progress with my studies. The world is making a little more sense to me.

I attempted this class twice in the past year and I had to withdraw twice for different reasons, but I think I’ll be able to wrap my head around it a little better now that I’ve taken Geography 101 and Western Civilization. I’m curious to see how world politics operates and how Hawaii fits in with that subject, especially after this past week’s convention.

I found out that Hawaii’s past monarchs traveled around the world to establish Hawaii’s status as a foreign nation. It’s very interesting. One monarch signed treaties and things that allowed for immigrants to travel to Hawaii for work. We’re talking the 1800s and such. So knowing what they did in the past seems even more interesting to me now that I’m going to study International Relations. I mean, what exactly is international relations? Why is it important? How does that relate to Hawaii or how does Hawaii relate to it? Curiouser and curiouser.

With school and NaBloPoMo going on, I hope I can keep up. I’ll just have to plan a bit better.

Wish me luck!
