BookJunkie 411: Some Like It Haunted by Karen Cantwell

What. A. Book!

About a year ago, I stumbled upon the wonderful story Keep Me Ghosted by Karen Cantwell and reviewed it here. As mentioned in my Amazon review on the book …

I really, really, really (yes, it has to be said that much times) enjoyed Keep Me Ghosted and have been anxiously waiting for this book since last year.

And I really, really, really enjoyed Some Like it Haunted.

Ms. Cantwell does a great job in blending supernatural, mystery, and humor into one amazing story. The banter Sophie and Marmaduke has continues in this one and the growing romance between Sophie and Cal continues as well. We see development, a couple of them amazing, of old characters and introductions to new characters. It’s a light read, but it is such a great story. I had fun from cover to cover. And since I just had to reread Keep Me Ghosted *before* I read this one, I had twice the amount of fun these past two days. I couldn’t put it down. I’m very curious to see how things in Sophie and Marmi’s world (because you simply *can’t* have one without the other).

It is going to be really, really, really tough for me to wait for the next one.

… and now to elaborate.

Disclaimer: It’s a review. There are spoilers.

What I really like about the Sophie Rhodes Ghostly Romance series is the blend of humor with mystery and based around mysteries. I find the stories not only funny, but fun as well.

What I also like about this series is Sophie and Marmaduke. And yes, I enjoy their relationship more than Sophie and Cal’s. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy Sophie and Cal found each other, but there’s something about the banter between Sophie and Marmaduke I enjoy more. The relationship they have with each other is always how I pictured a true and lasting friendship. Marmi’s always there for Sophie and vice versa. They can count on each other.

Some Like It Haunted continues both points and the more and more I am enjoying this world. As mentioned, we see some very interesting characters. I like Myrtle and what she brought to the table. I even liked reading about those pesky twin witches, even though they made me mad. And we also see some interesting developments of old characters. I really liked how Shane comes back into the story. His challenge amused me and I definitely laughed along with Sophie.

It will be really hard for me to wait for the next book in the series. I hope it lasts for a few more books and I hope it ends the way I want it … *snickers* but that’s what every reader hopes for, isn’t it?

I would say that this is a definite must-add to my library, but I’ve already added it.

Favorite Scene:
There really is too many to list here. I really enjoyed a lot of good moments in this book. But if I had to choose just one, I think it would be this one.

“What am I going to do, Marmi?”

“I wish I had an answer for you, Sophie. I am afraid this not my area of expertise. Had I a body, I would gladly offer a hug to soothe your weary heart.”

Favorite Quote:
” … There’s just too many souls out there for two to be meant for each other alone.”

And the reason is I always, genuinely believed this. As much of a reader of fiction as I am, I never quite bought the soulmate bit (harsh, I know) and this quote sums that up pretty nicely.

Oh, and I just had to throw this quote in as well.

” … for the record, she is far too good for you.” 😉
