30-Day Blogging Challenge: Day 17

Day 17: What do you want to be when you get older?

What a question! I automatically default to career when I hear this question, as in what do you want to do professionally?

But is it really what the question is asking? I know I’m analyzing it too much, but I can’t help thinking about a more generalized point-of-view. You know, the bigger picture?

Professionally wise, I have no idea. I’m almost 30 and I still don’t know what I have to give to the world that will help pay the bills at the same time. My current game plan is to break into the Information Professional field.  The Association of Independent Information Professional has more information on this and it’s the closest thing to what I want to do. I’d like to research, write, consult, and help others by providing them with quality information when they need it. I’m hoping to specialize in History. I don’t have a concentration, yet.

Ideally, I would love a career that would allow me to read, write, and learn. Oh, and a little bit of traveling involved.  Any job that can provide those qualities and I’m for life. Many have suggested to be a teacher. I may still take that path, who knows?

Thinking about this question in a broader sense, as in what do I want to be as a person, I just hope I can have a positive impact on people. Not necessarily Mother Teresa or anything, but just . . .  maybe show people the world isn’t all terrible.
