The director, Thor Freudenthal, did a great job opening the movie with Talia, Luke, Annabeth, and Grover’s backstory. And I really liked how they had Percy narrate it. I thought it was beautifully shot and placed very well within the story.
Okay, so I just realized that the 2nd half of my review disappeared! I don’t know why the rest of my review didn’t process so I had to rewrite it.
We meet Tyson in this film and I thought Douglas Smith did a fine job portraying Percy’s half brother. I also don’t remember if Clarisse was in the Percy Jackson and the Lightening Theif (and if she was, it was a minor role), but I love Leven Rambin portraying Clarrise. In my humble opinion, she did good job and I hope to see her in the movies to come.
Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daggadio, and Brandon Jackson are doing a wonderful job portraying Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. I think you can see them growing into their respective characters in this one and I like where they are going. It reminds me of Daniel, Rupert, and Emma when they started the Harry Potter series. I’ll enjoy watching them grow, if the franchise continues to do well (which I’m definitely hoping for!).
Overall, the adaptation went well and I loved how they brought Sea of Monsters to film. As a stand alone movie, I also think it did well. I’m excited to see where they’ll take The Titan’s Curse!
